Palatul Regal incendiat in 1944

02 octombrie 2012 Alex Galmeanu Bucurestii in istorie

To continue the series of photos illustrating events of the Second World War (revisit older articles here, here and here), I discovered the above photograph that documents from the inside the damage caused by a fire that caught the Royal Palace on Calea Victoriei (Victory Avenue) when Russian troops entered the capital.

This is a press photograph wired (which accounts for its low quality) from Europe and received in New York through Associated Press channels (AP Wirephoto). The text accompanying this image is the following:

“(NY8-Sept. 25) Damage in Romanian Royal Palace – Photo shows damage to the hall outside the throne room of the Romanian Royal Palace in Bucharest which was inflicted during fighting that accompanied the entry into the capital city by Russian troops. (APWirephoto) (OB21105APL) 44″

Imaginea este datata 26 septembrie 1944.

Mai multe despre tehnologia imaginilor fotografice transmise telegrafic gasiti aici.

The image is dated 26 September 1944.

More about the technology of wired can be found here.
